Who?
Isabelle Desjeux
A French scientist educated in Art in Singapore
Isabelle arrived in Singapore in 1999 to be a Scientist in a biology lab. She quit after only a few months to pursue her passion: the arts. She studied Western Art and Printmaking in NAFA and got her certificates in 2002.
Since then, she has been teaching drawing to children both in International Schools and from her garden in Seletar Camp. She has also held art workshops (printmaking) at various venues including the STPI, Museums and International Schools.
Isabelle’s art focuses on “the refuse”, whether it be leftovers from the lab, soon-to be-demolished houses or discarded paper: she likes giving a second life to discarded objects, and considers them as important as the rest. She doesn’t limit herself to one medium, being comfortable with drawing, printmaking, sculpting and painting, depending on the question she tries to answer.
Isabelle has held both group exhibitions (with the Markmakers, with fellow artists in Pameran Postcard) and a solo exhibition (“Story Sculptures” in 2007). She has also produced the illustrations for the “Postcards from Seletar” notebook.
Isabelle is now joining the LASALLE College of the Arts for a Masters in Fine Arts from August 2009. Her project will focus on Art and Science: “An artistic view of the scientific biological world”… So, it’s back to the lab!
